Holiday, oh holiday, best one of the year

Was planning on doing a style snoop on Sunday but I got a little sidetracked with the lovely weather and sat in the garden all day reading various magazines. We had a BBQ, twas very nice and I got a little, okay, very sunburnt.

Also, you may or may not know that I'm finally going on holiday tomorrow. 1 DAY! I'm off to Rhodes with a bunch of friends and I cannot wait. So I've also been spending time gathering together all my things ready to pack. This explains that lack of outfit posts as all my decent clothes are washed, ironed and ready to be packed. No, I still haven't packed yet. Woops. We have a kinda early start as we have to be at the airport for 8am so I'm trying to get everything prepared today.

First thing on the agenda was painting my nails and I thought I might aswell try something different, well, different for me anyway. I used Barry M 'Blue Moon' for the base colour then added a stripe of Nails Inc, Floral Street on top which I outlined with the Black Models Own Wah Nails nail art pen. I'll probably end up changing them a few times on holiday anyway as I'm taking a canny few polishes and I tend to get bored easily.

Anyway, I'll be back in a week with hopefully; 1.)lots of outfit posts from the hols, maybe even some from a few new faces, and 2.) a tan! Ciao x

Elbow patches and mismatched nails

Last night was fun, I did end up slightly sick, probably due to the fact I haven't eaten much so I'm still recovering today. Nothing much going on today, I'm just in the house doing odd jobs so I've gone for a comfy slouchy outfit. I bought the jumper a few weeks back and although I love it, I haven't worn it much because of its weird length which makes choosing what to wear with it hard. However, it so comfy and I do love elbow patches. The top/dress underneath is kinda fancy but with the jumper on top I think the length is perfect for daytime with leggings. The jewellery as always is from Asda, how cute is the owl locket? The nails are Nails Inc Jermyn Street and Marylebone High Street.

Pre-holiday purchases and What I Wore

Went to Newcastle on Monday and got most of the last minute things I need for my hols. Finally managed to find a hat that fits my big head,(granted it is a very big hat, kinda a boater style.) Also got some sandals, jeans and the Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser. Its supposed to be pretty good for clearing up skin I thought I'd give it a try. Also went to Durham today and bought some floral wide leg trousers.

Boater, Sandals and Trousers - All New Look

What I wore today: Floral shirt - Topshop, Leggings: H&M

There might just be a more decent outfit post tomorrow, as I am off out in the evening. x

Fearne Cotton - She's all over our screens this week thanks to the BBC's Glastonbury coverage and is for sure one of the many celebrities that have that 'festival look' down to a T. The DJ and TV presenter has a grunge/rock chick style by day with skinny jeans a staple but she definitely glams it up for the red carpet. Eeeeh and I remember the days when she used to have pink hair and present 'Fingertips'(which btw I secretly loved.)

Also, I've updated my playlist. These are the songs I'm listening to over and over again. x

Back, again!

Apologies for the very long break in blogging. Due to a number of reasons, mainly textiles coursework and exams, which are now thankfully both done with, I've kinda pushed blogging to the back of my mind. I've still been reading my fave blogs regularly though and now, seen as the boring stuff is done and I have a summer of nothingness, hopefully I'll be a more consistent blogger.

My exams went okay, textiles was pretty hard thanks to the teachers actually not teaching us any theory this year and the rest weren't too bad. I've already totally forgotten about them and spending my time getting prepared and ridiculously excited for our girls holiday which is less than two weeks away. I'm off shopping in Newcastle on Monday to buy last minute things for said holiday, and then meeting up with everyone on Thursday for a few end of exam drinks at a friends house.

Here's what I wore today to work. Just a basic outfit really but I thought one was necessary considering the absence.

Top:Topshop Trousers:New Look Chain:Primark Belt:New Look Shoes:River Island

Rings: Asda of course! Nails: Barry M in 'Mint Green' and Models Own Nail art pen

Favourite song at the moment - Calvin Harris ft Kelis - Bounce. Great summer song and the guy on the video's pretty fit, not calvin harris, t'other one. Hope everyone's exams have gone well! There all finished now arent they? Anyway, even if they haven't all gone to plan(like mine) who cares, just enjoy the summer! x

Catch up

Haven't posted in a while, so a quick catch up is on order, not that anything particularly exciting has happened. I did, thankfully, get onto my foundation course which I'm very pleased and relieved about. Albeit by the skin of my teeth but hey ho. They told me I need to work on my drawing skills. Thing is I can't really draw. Never-the-less, I have been trying, some of my attempts do actually resemble their subjects and I have found myself enjoying it so all is good.

It's half term now so I've been lazing about the house trying (and failing) to complete two history essays, endless textiles coursework and various 'homework' tasks. Have finally managed to sort out my wardrobe which was hideously cluttered and full of crappy old clothes that I never wear. Took me two days but it's done and is looking much better. Forgot to take a before picture but here's what it's looking like now. It's still quite full but compared to before, its a hell of a difference.

Today, I finally, two years overdue, got my eye tested. I already wear glasses but only for watching TV and sometimes (very rarely) at sixth form if I need to see the board and I did start to hate them about two weeks after I chose them. This time round I picked some lovely tortoiseshell patterned specs. Let's see how long it takes for me to go off these.

Okay, there pretty boring but they'll do. Thats if they're even the right ones... I'm not sure? We also booked our girls holiday for the summer. Have I said that before? Well anyway yeah, we're going to Rhodes so party on. Already planning my shopping lists, and with the pictures that have been surfacing from the LOOK show; spring/summer on the high street is looking pretty good.

Apologies for the long post, didn't know I had so much to say. Hopefully there'll be an outfit post up this week and a style snoop on sunday. xxx

I won't just be a puppet on a string

Khaki sheer shirt - H&M
Cable knit cardigan - Urban Outfitters
Camel Chinos - Topshop
Brown brogues - New Look

Apologies for the lack of posts lately. This photo was taken weeks ago when I was kinda on a blogging break so it didn't get posted. Textiles coursework seems to be taking over my life. We're making the toile now so should be starting to make the final product in a few weeks. Went shopping for my fabrics today and I'm pretty pleased. My dress is chiffon with a more structured top and a floaty skirt. I'll also make a belt to cinch in the waist and I've found the perfect fabric for that which also represents my theme. I like my design, I just hope I'll be able to do it justice when I start making it.

Anyway hopefully blogging will be back to normal once my foundation course interview on Wednesday is done. I'm mainly just making sure everything I've done so far is to a good enough standard. Man, I hope I get in. Fingers crossed anyway.

Hope all you Strokes fans took advantage of the free download they put on their website of their new single 'Under cover of darkness'. If you didn't, too late, sadly the offer's over now but here it is if you haven't heard it yet. Thank god they've returned!

Phew

YESSSSS! Exams are finally done. Free at last. Some were okay, some terrible but there's always resits at the end of the day. Hopefully, excusing the endless amount of Textiles I still have to do, this means normal blogging will resume. :) x

Whitney Port With VIVA starting to show the 2nd series of The City this week, and with me watching it religiously, I figured she'd be a good subject for this week's style snoop. She's certainly progressed in the style stakes in her move from LA intern to New York designer. Her outfits choices are always simply put together and very minimalistic. Her style is casual and slouchy but always with a feminine and girly edge. She's always been my favourite out of The Hills and The City casts, she doesn't take herself or fashion too seriously and 'seems' to be a genuinely nice person.

Taper Jean Girl

Hello lovelies! I realise I haven't blogged for ages and I do apologise. I have been pretty much constantly ill since Christmas, have had exams to revise for and lots of coursework to do. I've also just felt like I haven't really had much to say and a bit lost on the blogging front.

Because of that, with it being a new year, I've decided it's about time I give my blog a bit of a shake up. I've never really liked my blog name, I kinda just picked it in a rush, thinking I would think of a better one, and it just stuck. So, it's new name is Taper Jean Girl. One of my favourite Kings of Leon songs, yes, but also, what appears to be my wardrobe staple, skinny or tapered jeans. As you may have noticed I do tend to stick to Black skinnies in my everyday outfits so I thought the song title is a good description of me and would therefore suit my blog. I've made a simple new header to go with it and so far I'm liking it. What do you think?

Hope you've been having a good start to 2011. Mine's been pretty shit so far to be honest but hey ho, at least it can only get better. x
